Reporting to the Vice-President Sales & Program management, the Senior Program Manager is responsible for the acquisition and delivery of domestic and international weapon system projects. In addition to his main responsibility to achieve new sales commitment and deliver projects, the Senior Program Manager supports the development of weapon system product roadmaps in a cross functional team and executes associated R&D projects. He develops and executes an international sales growth strategy and develops relationships with customers, government officials and other stakeholders. He is responsible for weapon system order intake, sales, proposal and R&D cost as well as the resulting segment profitability. He is responsible for the performance of the projects in a cross functional setting and is the direct line manager of a team of project managers and system engineers.

 

Description

  • Serve as an advisor and counsel the Executive Team in all matters pertained to weapon system markets and product and participate in management meetings
  • Lead the development and execution of the short- and long-term business plan for new international and domestic weapon system business in conformance with company planning processes
  • Prepare the annual weapon system business budgets including sales projections, margins and costs in partnership with the Sales & program Support manager as well as the Finance department
  • Monitor and evaluate market and sales trends. Research and analyze sales options.
  • Establish, develop and maintain relationships with clients and business partners alike by providing support, information, guidance.
  • Develop and execute project capture strategies in an international setting.
  • Oversee and coordinate the preparation of demonstrations and proposals to domestic and international customers
  • Lead and/or participate in key sales and contractual negotiations
  • Plan, direct and oversee the delivery of weapon system projects in a cross functional team and in accordance with the company’s quality manual and Project Management Process.
  • Supervise, coach and develop proposal and project managers as well as system engineers assigned to the business segment
  • Identify project execution opportunities and risks. Take appropriate actions to achieve business plan objectives.
  • Identify product improvements or new products by remaining current on industry trends, market activities, and competitors.
  • Instill a culture of passion for the product with results orientation and a resilience to beat our competition.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree in Engineering, with business or finance-related disciplines as the most likely background. A MBA would be highly regarded.
  • 8-10 years of experience in defence & security (land and/or naval systems) in proposal and project management
  • Proven experience in capturing international programs (demonstrated through wins)
  • Experience in developing winning bid strategies (technical, commercial and industrial)
  • Price to win development and bid strategy experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage short term, large, complex pursuits over time
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the management of project execution related disciplines, such as finance, contracts, configuration management, planning, logistics, production, quality and human resources
  • Proven experience in managing the delivery of several domestic and international projects larger $20 MCAD on time and on budget
  • Proven experience in managing project execution technical and commercial risk
  • Candidate will have had segment profitability responsibility in the defense industry
  • Possess experience with operational execution in a complex multi-project environment
  • Demonstrated leadership, autonomy and ability to work in a matrix type organization.
  • Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively to people without technical backgrounds both verbally and in writing
  • Senior management level interface and presentation skills
  • Ability to build and manage relationships with customer and across a large enterprise
  • Proven negotiating skills and strong knowledge in requirement and contract management
